Opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye has lamented state broadcaster UBC’s failure to secure the rights to broadcast the Africa Cup on Nations live on television because of a shortage of money.
UBC said it could not raise Shs2.3billion ($600,000) to secure the rights and will only show highlights of the game: “It is with great sadness that we will officially communicate this to our esteemed viewers and the country at large that UBC shall only be able to relay highlights of the game and provide live radio commentary on all our radio channels.”

And the opposition kingpin went online and said: ‘Great shame that after UGANDA CRANES made historic entry into AFCON, matches can’t be televised live by “public broadcaster”!!’
However, it is likely that the government will step in to resolve the situation, like it has done in the past.
