In the wake of President Yoweri Museveni’s “I am not your servant” remark that shocked many Ugandans, the FDC’s four-time presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has reacted much differently than many expected.
Museveni, whose remarks, were seemingly directed at his longtime rival, Dr Besigye, who in his “Defiance Campaign” rallies has been quoted by the media as saying that Ugandans must cease to treat people in leadership positions as masters, but rather as servants.
Besigye maintains that citizens are “masters of their leaders” and he could not have outed any better reprisal than hosting more than 200 children to a party at his home in Kasangati, Wakiso Districton Sunday, before the school opened today.
With most Ugandan parents now hustling to gather the skyrocketing school fees rates all over the country, a gesture like Besigye’s will surely be give them a sigh of relief.
A father to a teenage boy, Besigye showed his parenting prowress by treating the children to a sumptuous breakfast as they danced away to Toka Kwa Bala Bala, FDC’s election campaigns signature anthem.
A cheery Dr Besigye took turns in exchanging pleasantries with the ecstatic youngsters, often whispering sweet words to the charmed children as he served them cake.
The children participated in several organised activities like dancing, painting, jumping ropes and playing football.
The children ranged from nursery school to P.7 although 51 students in secondary school also attended.
