For being the first to reach the group stages of the Total CAF Confederation Cup since the change of format in 2004, Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) have been rewarded handsomely.

Mike Hillary Mutebi’s side edged past Egyptian side Al Masry at the play off stage 4-3 on penalties after the aggregate score was tied at 1-1 over the two legs and received not less than $275,000 (Shs990 million) for the fete (the fourth and third in a group will walk home with $275,000).

From the Shs 990 million, KCCA CEO David Tamale said that management was giving Shs181 million ($50,000) to the players and Shs90 million ($25,000) to the technical (coaching) staff as bonuses.

Mr Tamale said, “We have a laid down structure about how the bonuses are shared. The players and technical team did well and they will be rewarded.”

The celebrations aside, focus now shifts to the league upon return at home with a home fixture against Uganda Revenue Authority Football Club (URA FC) this Wednesday and table leaders SC Villa later in the week.
