The draw for the CAF Confederation Cup group stages was made today and Uganda champions KCCA FC were given one of the toughest draws possible.
The Kasisiro Boys were paired with Rabat (Morocco), Club Africain (Tunisia), Rivers United (Nigeria) in Group A, despite being one of the teams that dropped in the competition from the CAF Champions League final preliminaries.
Thursday’s draw, which took place in the desert north of Cairo, as the continent ventures into unchartered waters this year with the expansion of the group phase in both competitions from eight to 16 teams, in a move that is both bold and risky.
The winners of the competition will win a trophy and prize money worth $ 1.25 million.
KCCA’s first game is away to FUS Rabat, on May 12, a side that denied SC Villa chance to play in the group stages of the competition last year with a 7-1 aggregate win.
