According to the latest announcement on the Ministry of Health and World Health Organisation, two new confirmed cases are relatives of the five-year-old boy- a Ugandan national who was the first case to be confirmed in the country.
The five-year-old child who tested positive for Ebola is receiving care after arriving on Sunday and died Wednesday morning.
Two new confirmed cases of Ebola- grandmother and a 3 year-old sibling to the deceased are currently isolated in Bwera Hospital Ebola Treatment Unit.
The mother of the child was a Congolese citizen married to a Ugandan.
She had travelled with the child and four other family members back home to nurse her father who eventually died from Ebola.
The Health ministry and the WHO sent a team to the Kasese to trace likely cases and vaccinate those who might have come into contact with the patient.
Uganda has been on high alert since the start of the Ebola outbreak in DRC in August 2018. More than 2,000 cases of the highly contagious virus have been recorded, including 1,357 deaths, in eastern DRC’s North Kivu and Ituri provinces.
The disease is spread mainly through contact with the bodily fluids of those infected.
Uganda has experienced several outbreaks in the past, most recently in 2012, while in 2000 more than 200 people died in an outbreak in the north of the country.
