Edith Byanyima, a sister to Winnie Byanyima, the wife of former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye, has failed to show up at the Special Investigations Directorate offices in Kireka, Kampala.
She had been called upon to appear at the SID today (Monday) at 10am for interrogation and later make a statement regarding Police investigations into a case of promoting sectarianism and incitement to violence in regards to the Akena murder case.
In several interviews this month, she reportedly uttered the said statements after a group of legislators and relatives of Kenneth Akena attacked her sister Winnie Byanyima for turning up at the High Court to stand surety for Matthew Kanyamunyu, his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari and his brother Joseph Kanyamunyu who are accused of killing child rights activist Kenneth Akena.

Byanyima however said that she was unable to show up because she had other engagements.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Emilian Kayima confirmed that Byanyima had informed Police that she would instead appear at Kireka on Tuesday. Kayima said that the state was concerned that she uttered sectarian statements which have been circulating on social media and decided to summon her to that effect. He said Byanyima is treated as a suspect in the case.
