The Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs, Beti Kamya has directed Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to immediately demolish all buildings under construction without permits from the sector regulator.
Recently Kamya halted the demolition of illegal structures that are already occupied a move that put her at loggerheads with the executive director Jennifer Musisi.
KCCA had announced that it was going to demolish over 500 illegal buildings in the city but the move was stopped following the intervention of Kamya, Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago and councilors.
Kamya said they took exception to halt the demolition of illegal buildings that are already completed.
However, for illegal buildings under construction Kamya says KCCA will work with police to implement the demolition.
She says there are many people who are putting up buildings without permission from KCCA, a thing they will not allow to continue. These buildings, she says are being constructed at night to avoid the wrath of the law.
