A senior five student at St Mary’s Rushoroza in Kabale town succumbed to bullet wounds after he was shot dead by police which had been called to quell an ensuing strike by students over arsenal vs Liverpool match.
Elly Maate the Kigezi region police publicist identified the deceased as Allan Ntunguka 19 years who was shot dead during the riots.
It is indicated that the riot started after form three students found the senior six students seated in their front seat in the main hall as the game between Arsenal and Liverpool was about to start which resulted into a battle.
According to Maate, the school management informed police to calm the situation after it turned bloody.
He said police on arrival shot in the air to disperse and scare them but because the policemen were shooting while in the valley and the rioting students were on raised ground, a stray bullet hit one of the students in the chest and he died moments later after admission at Kabale regional referral hospital.
Maate identified policeman who shot as 59592, Job Musawo, attached to Rushoroza police post Kabale Municipality who abandoned the gun at the scene.
The deceased will be buried at his parent’s home in Nyaruhanga Rubanda district.
