Justice Murangira will preside over Kananura’s and 50 cases in the next criminal session
After a much protracted media war, the High Court has appointed Justice Joseph Murangira to hear rally driver and beer businessman Andrew Desh Kananura murder trial set for November 7th.
Kananura and five others currently out on bail are accused of allegedly beating his former Panamera Bar employee Badru Kateregga to death over stealing sh30,000 on September 30, 2012. Immediately after his employee’s murder, Kananura ran to United Kingdom (UK) but on January 19, 2013 he was arrested at Entebbe International Airport as he tried to sneak back into the country. He was arraigned before Judge Musene at Nakawa High Court despite calls for the high profile case to be transferred the to the High Court in Kampala but according to the local tabloid Musene who had saying the court had ultimate jurisdiction to handle it.
Justice Wilson Masalu-Musene early this year in a public outcry removed himself from the case after local tabloid RED PEPPER alleged he had ‘sat’ on the case since 2013.
Musene explained that there was a bold headline stating that ‘It Is Not Yet Over’ in the local tabloid’s story alleging that while he was at Nakawa High Court, he refused to transfer the case to the High Court in Kampala because he had a vested interest in the matter and his court had zero ultimate jurisdiction to handle it.
Fast forward t0 November 2016, Justice Murangira will preside over Kananura’s and 50 cases in the next criminal session.
