A London-based journalist has has vowed to defeat embattled Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavumain a land ownership dispute, TheUgandan has learnt.
We reported earlier this week that a one John Sentongo had sued Justice Kavuma over a similar case where he is accused of using UPDF soldiers to take neighbour’s land.
We can now authoritatively reveal that Justice Kavuma faces an uphill task following a pile of cases in relation to land grabbing.
It is understood that Mr Phillip Mayengo has been locked in a legal battle for a long time after Justice Kavuma allegedly fenced off his plot of land in Luwafu Kizungu Zone, Makindye Division.
This piece of land is not far from the earlier complainant Sentongo. Both pieces of land are just adjacent to one another.
Mr Mayengo, through his lawyer argues that Justice Kavuma, while using his senior government position fenced off his land without showing any proof of ownership or purchase agreement.
TheUgandan has seen a letter addressed to Buganda Land Board in which Mr Mayengo through his legal counsel accuses Justice Kavuma of unlawful interference and trespass on his land and using offices from the Uganda People’s Defense forces to guard it since 2010.
The letter states in part that since 2010, Mr Mayengo has tried all means to recover his plot of land in vain.
“Since 2010, our client has labored through various means to recover his land from Justice Kavuma, including involving members of the local council and the community,” the lawyers wrote.
In May 2012, the Local Council leadership of Luwafu-Kizungu Zone had ruled that there were inconsistencies on the explanations by Justice Kavuma and lack of documentation regarding Kavuma’s alleged ownership.
