Jinja High Court has once again granted bail to Rwenzururu king, Charles Wesley Mumbere after accepting his second bail application on Monday afternoon.

Justice Micheal Elubu granted Mumbere bail on condition that he appears before court registrar every week.  The application filed by the state in objection of the king’s release on bail for being a commander-in-chief of a rebel out-fit called Kirumira-mutima, was disregarded.

Kasese Woman MP and Leader of Opposition in Parliament Winnie Kizza said outside court, ‘We are very happy for the release of our king. He will still have the freedom of his home again.’

One of the other conditions will see the Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF) royal guard brigade to guard and maintain his security instead of his own Rwenzururu Royal Guards.

The other agreed terms by both parties were that the king’s movements be restricted to the three districts of Kampala, Wakiso and Jinja and the court ruling also says his subjects are not supposed to access him.

Mr Caleb Alaka, one of the defence lawyers of the king, informed the court that in the spirit of reconciliation between the parties as mandated by the constitution, the state and king Mumbere’s lawyers have been holding talks.
