The Uganda People’s Congress Party President Jimmy Akena has cautioned against politicising the murder of Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.
He joins a long chorus of politicians who have expressed the same sentiments following President Museveni’s remarks that Abiriga’s murder may have been political.
Akena says the relevant authorities should be left to investigate.
Akena also spoke about plans to streamline commercial motorcyclists commonly known as boda boda, in the wake of Abiriga’s murder.
Abiriga’s murder was just one in a series of assasinations executed by gunmen riding on motorcycle.
Speaking at Abiriga’s burial on Monday, President Yoweri Museveni announced a string of measures to streamline the boda boda industry in a bid to stem the rising wave of murders, including the introduction of numbered helmets for boda boda riders and banning the wearing of hoods by riders.
Akena had this to say on the proposed boda boda regulation.
