Many have called her the most energetic lady to perform on any stage in Uganda, but Jemimah Sanyu believes that her performances have nothing to do with energy but rather a ‘musical possession’ that hits her whenever she is on stage.
The songstress is a lady of many talents that range from being a music producer to a voice coach and a dancer.
Jemimah Sanyu will be one of the opening acts at this weekend’s Blankets and Wine Kampala event. The event that is set to take place at Lugogo Cricket Oval, on Sunday 18th December, will be the last edition of the picnic styled quarterly event in 2016.
The Tusker Malt Lager sponsored event and organised by House of Deejays, will be headlined by Africa’s number one star, Alikiba, alongside, Jemimah Sanyu, The Mith, Giovanni Kiyingi and DJ Naselow.
Jemimah Sanyu who will be performing in her last event of the year as she will be taking a musical break until April 2017, is famously known for the hit single Ziba Amaaso off her ‘Amaaso go googera’ album. She has released various songs including hits like; “Sitya” “I am a Ugandan” “This Love” “Yakubedha” among many others.
The Afro-fusion star whose music is a blend of African instruments with a touch of African and world music, says that she always wanted to create the kind of music that can speak for her not only on the local scene but internationally as well.
Inspired by legendary Ugandan artists like Richard Kaweesa and Joanita Kawalya, Jemimah has been doing music ever since she was a child. It is with this inspiration and guidance from them that she hopes to one day open up a music academy to support young artists.
Currently in studio finalizing on her album set to be released in January, the artist says that she will be looking to thrill and entertain during her Blankets and Wine performance.
“This being my last performance until April 2017, I will be looking to give all I can when I get to the stage. The fans should expect the best from me. We shall dance and sing as we enjoy ourselves. Tell all your friends to get ready for Jemimah Sanyu.” She said.
“Through Blankets and Wine, Tusker malt lager celebrates authentic musical acts from across Africa and Jemimah Sanyu embodies this mission. Her performance style gives her an extra edge and that unique touch that Tusker Malt Lager and Blankets and Wine are all about. The energy she brings to the stage will surely get revelers on their feet.” said Tusker Brand Manager, Alex Tusingwire.
A quarterly, picnic style music festival, Blankets and Wine is East Africa’s premier music experience, designed to showcase outstanding musicians in the emerging genres of afro-based music.
Entrance fee is 100,000 UGX at the Lugogo Cricket Oval and gates open at 12:00pm on 18th December 2016.
