The first ever wildlife run to be held in the Great Lakes region as excited nature conservationists to the extent it has attracted participants from as far as Tanzania, Kenya Rwanda, Ethiopia and Democratic Republic of Congo among others.
The run slated for November 12th 2016, is a brain child of Kinkiizi Tourism Club an NGO engaged in tourism promotion with special focus on Destination Kinkiizi, Kanungu district.
It will involve participants taking part in a 10km wild run in the area adjacent to Ishasha sector of the Queen Elizabeth National Park, 3 km wild nature walk through the same area, and 20km bicycle race also in the same area. There will also be the unveiling of the Banyabatumbi famous tree and feeling the Batwa experience at Buhoma near Bwindi among many activities.
The team leader of Kinkiizi Tourism Club Abdul Muhiire, said their organization arranges an annual tourism week and conservation awareness and this years events will run be held between 6th to 12th November with the wild run being a climax. All participants will be given certificates and the winners in every category will be given prizes.
He said that over 1000 people from within and outside the country have so far registered to participate in the Wild run which will be flagged off by the Speaker of the East African Community Hon Dan Kidega.
The official launch this year’s activities at Uganda Media Center and graced by the Minister of Tourism Hon Ephraim Kamuntu who hailed the initiative by Kinkiizi Tourism Club to promote tourism and asked other indigenous organizations to embrace the initiative so that Uganda can become a major tourist destination in the region.
