IGP Ochola claims Siraje Bakaleke criminality was being ‘covered up by Kayihura’

Embattled Kampala South Regional Police Commander Siraje Bakaleke, has been called a corrupt officer who belongs to prison, a source close to Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochora reveals.

Bakeleke was last month interrogated by police for allegedly leading other officers to extort more than Shs 1.4 billion from two South Korean nationals who were in the country to purchase gold. He has since been ordered out of office as investigations continue.

But the latest indications that he is headed to the coolers come after revelations that when IGP Ochola appeared before Parliament’s appointments committee for vetting, he reportedly said he had ordered Bakaleke’s arrest pending investigation but his directive was reportedly reversed by his former boss Kale Kayihura.

Now,  Uganda Police spokesman Emilian Kayima says Bakaleke is under investigation for illegal detention, extortion and deportation together with three other junior officers and a lawyer suspected to be on the run.

Kayima’s update on the probe comes after social media reports over the weekend  that IGP Ochola had ordered a fresh probe into the case after alleged cover ups in the investigation by his former boss.
