Housemaids breaking children’s virginity in Uganda – experts

Family and parenting experts have revealed that housemaids are the leading cause for the loss of virginity among children.

Speaking at a parenting seminar on Sunday, Dr Monica Etima Kizito, a pediatrician at the family Life Network said that because the maids spend most time with children, they end up manipulating them into sexual intercourse.

She advised parents to always  be open-minded and begin talking to their children about issues of sexuality and early relationships.

She said that most parents ignore the sex subject, something that has led to more children giving birth at an early age.

She added that the maids, both female and male take advantage of the children to satisfy their sexual demands.

“Sometimes parents pretend that children do not have sexual feelings but these are human beings whose feelings are triggered off during adolescence and therefore, it is safer if they are talked and guided early,” said Dr Etima.

She said that children they have talked to in her organisation reveal that they first had sex with a maid.

“Most children we have interacted with tell us that they lost their virginity to housemaids because these are the people they are free with because they interact freely with them and they are kind,” she said, adding that at this stage, children start becoming sexually active so there is need to speak to them so that they understand the dangers of early sexual relations.

“You are aware that new HIV/AIDS infections are coming from children aged between 10 and 19 so it is safer and cheaper to talk to them rather than beginning to treat them after they have contracted the disease,” she warned.
