The leader of opposition in Parliament Betty Aol Ocan has asked the parliamentary committee on legal and parliamentary affairs to recommend that filing of human rights violation cases and complaints should be facilitated at a magistrate’s court other than high court.
Ocan believes this will allow easy access to courts for victims, she was presenting her views before the committee which is currently scrutinizing the human rights enforcement bill 2015.
She noted that magistrate courts are in most districts in the country, as opposed to high courts, making it easier for citizens to access justice.
She also told the committee presided over by the MP for Ajuri County Hamson Obua that it should recommend to parliament the provisions in the bill where by human rights offenders can be personally liable instead of hiding behind the state.
