Six sub counties in Gulu District have received Shs 16 million from the now rooted government venture endowment , the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Fund aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs’ with affordable credit as well as technical advise on value addition and market access.
Gulu District Farmers Association is the core team that will select and verified the groups who are suitable to benefits in this project in the sub counties of Patiko, Palaro, Bungatira, Awach, Paicho and Unyama.
Speaking to TheUgandan on Sunday, Okech Goritty the Acting CAO Gulu said it was a big step forward being among the 19 districts to partake in the pilot phase that has Shs3 billion sourced out of the Public Investment Plan.
“This is a good venture for our people and visible efforts to make Uganda a middle income economy,” Ms Oketch said, adding, “Misappropriation of the women funds in Gulu will not be tolerated at all and the money.”
Pius Bigirimana, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender and Labour recently said at least Shs50 billion is earmarked for the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program over the next 5 years.
The project targets vulnerable women, unemployed, women with disabilities, women living with HIV/Aids and women in hard-to-reach areas.
