Over the weekend, Indians who originate from the 6th largest and most industrialised state of India, Gujarat, celebrated their Gujarat Divas day 2018 at Kampala Parents School amidst different cultural performances in music, drama and dance.

Often called as ‘Jewel of Western India’, Gujarat has been on the global map since ancient times. It is said that even the Greeks knew about Gujarat.

Gujarat Indians are a significant community in many African countries including Uganda where a big number of Indian and indigenous rich and well know businessmen including Sudhir Ruparelia and Karim Hirj among others work and live.

India’s present Prime Minister Naremdra Modi is also from Gujarat. He has successfully governed the state for three consecutive terms.

AIGP Andrew Solowen represented the guest of honour IGP Martin Okoth Ochola during the celebrations powered by the Indian Association of Uganda in conjuction with the Indian High Commission in Kampala.

Sudhir (secoend-right) and his wife Jyotsna Ruparelia seated with other VIP guests of the Gujarat Indian community in uganda during the Gujarat Diavas Day celebrations 2018 at Kampala Parents School.
