In a rather shocking revelation, one of the MPs fled from the Rwenzururu Kingdom palace during the raid by security forces on Sunday

The Bukonzo West MP, Mr Atkins Katusabe, during a press conference at Parliament on Monday, said the army sneaked in weapons, the guns government later claimed were in the hands of Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere’s guards.

Mr Katusabe, said that though King Mumbere and the guards had agreed to evacuate the palace, the army hurriedly descended on them.

The MP said just minutes to the army action, he had spoken with the Chief of Defence Forces, General Katumba Wamala, to inform him about the mood in the palace.

After the thorough checking in his Palace, UPDF told journalists that they had discovered various bullet magazines, rifles, AK 47 guns, machetes and some local fighting equipment including Pangas, Spears, Arrows, army garments and other equipment.

The Materials were expected to have been in place as part of the collection of weaponry by the Kingdom that was restored in 2008 to advance its autonomy plans.

At least 46 royal guards were killed on when the army attacked the Rwenzururu Kingdom palace in Kasese town. A day before, another 30 people including 10 police officers died in different attacks in the district after the army and police raided the administrative offices of the kingdom. Up to 130 guards were arrested and by press time, the death toll had exceeded 125.
