Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and former DP president, Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere and former FDC president Dr Kizza Besigye are among the renowned politicians present at the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) headquarters in Najjanankumbi as the swearing in ceremony of their new president Patrick Amuriat took centre stage.

The ceremony was conducted by one of the party lawyers Ladislaus Rwakafuzi and FDC head of electoral commission Dan Mugarura.

Former party president Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu is in attendance.
Kyaddondo East Mp Robert Kyagulanyi at FDC swearing in ceremony.

During the opening speeches, FDC party chairman Wasswa Birigwa commended Muntu Mugisha’s work, he says without what Muntu built in the three years, Hon. Patrick Oboi Amuriat would be inheriting nothing.

“We do not want to make any decisions amidst any emotion,” Gen. Muntu said. The former army commander added: “I am handing this party over to you intact, despite the differences we have witnessed for the past five years. I know where we are heading might be very tough but there are two things the party must accomplish; that is transforming the party and capturing power.”

Mr Amuriat who was elected president last week beating Gen Mugisha  Muntu at a delegates’ conference at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The former MP trounced Muntu with 641 votes against 463 in a hotly contest that is now threatening to bring the party to its knees.
