The resistance movement against city tycoon, Mr Hamis Kiggundu of Ham Enterprises (U) Ltd is getting a new member: MP Muwanga Kivumbi.
In an appearance on Radio Simba’s ‘Gasimbagane ne banawulire’ political show, the shadow internal affairs minister Muwanga Kivumbi said that Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) did not have any involvement in the demolition of Park Yard market on Monday morning, saying that the big wig behind dubious tycoon Ham’s money and power was the First Son, Maj Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
“That Ham (Kiggundu) who evicted poor Parkyard traders overnight is the same guy who constructed two imposing buildings adjacent to Makerere University main gate known as Ham Towers in a road reserve. When authorities probed the matter, they were told to get other options that led to the breaking of Makerere High School and the University fences to create more space for the road: no one is given such favours unless the State is bankrolling them,” an agitated Kivumbi said.
Kivumbi, the Butambala County legislator’s outbursts come days after thousands of vendors were displaced, with majority uncertain of the next step.
Asked whether his allegations could be verified, Muwanga explained that Ham’s breakthrough was masked as to have come when he supplied gumboots to UPDF some years back but without specifying how he claimed that the young tycoon is a proxy that the first son uses to do business in Kampala.
“We all know who this Ham (Kiggundu) fella is,” Muwanga said, before claiming that ‘Ham works for Muhoozi (Kainerugaba) and most people are afraid of talking about it because they fear him.
“We all know where Ham came from, he was at first a petty trader who upgraded to importing goods from China and then branched to gun trade through Muhoozi disguised as gum boots business.
Though Muwanga Kivumbi may soon be able to take on the matter more at the floor of Parliament, the former journalist has a history of saying contraversial things — and speaking out against the ‘MUHOOZI 2021 PROJECT’.
