The UPDF Special Forces Command and the South Korean Presidential Security Services (PSS) have agreed on closer cooperation focused on advanced VIP protection training programs and sharing the latest technological innovations in the field.

This was revealed in discussions held at the Blue House, the seat of the South Korean presidency, in Seoul last week. The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Ugandan Special Forces, Maj. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and the Minister of Presidential Security Services of the Republic of Korea, Gen (retired) Park Heung Ryul. Also in attendance was his Vice Mnister, Lee Young Seok. The meeting was a follow up to one held at Entebbe State House in May this year during the visit of South Korean President Park Geun-hye to the country.

President Geun-hye was in the country on a return visit following that of President Yoweri Museveni to South Korea in 2013. The two heads of state held discussions on bilateral cooperation in areas of trade, defense, agriculture, ICT, infrastructure development, and science and technology. In total, 10 MOUs were signed between the two countries.

Maj. Gen. Kainerugaba was also conducted on a tour of the state of the art Institute of Protection and Security Training of the PSS near Seoul by the Director of the Institute, Shin Dong Ho. “The visit of President Geun-hye to Uganda initiated this very important relationship. With new partners like South Korea, our already ongoing VIP training programs shall be greatly enhanced,” remarked General Kainerugaba.

General Heung-Ryul thanked the government of Uganda for its stellar role in contributing to peace in the African region, thereby contributing to overall global peace and security. He also further thanked the Ugandan government for hosting and securing the visit of President Park Geun Hye in May. He assured General Kainerugaba and the SFC of support in the field of training.
