Luwandagga will be buried on Monday at his ancestral home at Wamala-Katooke in Wakiso
Army commander Gen. Katumba Wamala has mourned the death of long-serving UBC TV journalist, current affairs host and sports commentator Andrew Patrick Luwandagga.
Luwandagga died Saturday morning Oct. 22, 2016 a month after his 61st birthday; reportedly of a sudden heart attack, although one of his sons was arrested and later freed over suspicion of murder.
At his body public viewing on Sunday, Gen. Katumba said Luwandagga was the epitome of Ugandan nationalism with his uncompromising of truth and honesty at all costs.
“Luwandagga’s era has come to an end in Uganda society. In his broadcast caree, he was revered and never flinching to speak his mind. he always hit the nail on the head with the comfort of his voluminous laughter,” Gen. Katumba who met him in 1972 at Old Kampala Senior School, told TheUgandan about Luwandaga.
“He has been a nationalistic and the media industry and country at large will miss him.
Luwandagga was best known for his courteous demeanor on-air as he hosted or moderated TV sports shows.
“We don’t need to congregate here to say bye to such wonderful brains,” Acting UBC Board chairman said at the service.
“The professionalism for which we knew Luwandagga will continue to air on UBC and we salute this professionalism,” Mr. Kaheru continued.
“In restructuring UBC, the deceased was very essential. He’s gone with the rest of the ideas but we’ll build on what he’s left us with.
Local football governing body Fufa was represented by Communications head Ahmed Hussein and pledged on behalf of the federation to support the deceased family in any way possible. Mr. Hussien said that the deceased has been influential in the sports fraternity would be missed especially by the Uganda Cranes and its millions of supporters who he for decades gave joy in his commentary during national team home matches.
Luwandaga started out as a sports reporter with British Broadcasting Corporation. He is survived by a wife and seven children,
