Former Inspector General of Police Gen Kale Kayihura who was on Wednesday arrested by the military has been charged with the murder of slain Police spokesman Andrew Felix Kaweesi, yet to be confirmed reports indicate.
Gen Kayihura was arrested at his country home in Katebe village, Kashagama sub-county Lyantonde district a few hours ago after Special Forces Command combed Lyantonde for 18 hours and failed to get him as he had sneaked out of his farm home. He was flown to Kampala in an army helicopter for further interrogation that was carried out at Mbuya Military barracks headed by CDF, Gen. David Muhoozi. Others on the panel included Deputy CDF Major Gen Mbadi, Counter Terrorism Director, Intelligence Director, Police’s representatives and lead investigators in the murder charges against Kayihura.
But just after 4.30pm, impeachable sources have disclosed to TheUgandan that the security meeting has ended with a statement that has Kaweesi murder charges preferred against Gn. Kayihura delivered to State House Nakasero.
However, security agencies are still tight-lipped on details of charges against Kayihura and how he is connected to the Kaweesi murder but this website can reliably confirm that the Genral’s arrest is an outcome of interrogations on recently arrested policeman, Abbey Kitagenda, a former Flying Squad operative, arrested a fortnight ago.
AIGP Kaweesi, 43, was assassinated by unknown gunmen on March 17, 2017 alongside his driver Godfrey Wambewo and bodyguard Kenneth Erau at Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb. Kaweesi’s body is said to have taken 27 bullets, his bodyguard took 33 bullets, while his driver was shot 11 times.
