Forum on Innovation in Infrastructure Receives Shs50 million Boost

Kampala, October 24th, 2019 – Partners and sponsors of Innovation Series a thought leadership forum by brainchild Burson Cohn & Wolfe (BCW) have today announced a Ugx 50 million sponsorship towards the firm’s fourth edition slated for 31st October at Golf Course Hotel, under the theme: Fast-tracking Infrastructure Project Completion Through Innovation.

Sponsors for the fourth edition of Innovation Series include; Roke Telkom, Golf Course Hotel, Total Uganda, Sanlam, Garage Group, DVI, Seamless Events, Vacker, Quicket, Radio City, Aka Dope and Fireworks Advertising.

Announcing the sponsors today, Mr. Walter Wafula, the Business Unit Head-PR at brainchild BCW welcomed the various partners and sponsors that have committed to the event.

“Together, this year, our partners have contributed Shs. 130 million to support Innovation Series in a bid to promote the spirit of innovation in Uganda,” he said, adding that, “Hosting such thought leadership events requires enormous human and financial resources. This is why we on-board partners like; Roke Telkom, Golf Course Hotel and Total.”

The fourth edition will be held on 31st October, 2019 at the Golf Course Hotel, in Kampala under the theme: Fast-Tracking Infrastructure Project Completion through Innovation.

The event is aimed at promoting innovation in infrastructure development sector, to accelerate the delivery of planned infrastructure and services to the end users as well as inspire firms in the sector to embrace new models and ways of implementing projects in a cost-effective way.

Mr. Alexander Bazirake, the Corporate Relations Manager at Roke Telkom said, “Roke Telkom took the decision to partner with brainchild BCW for the 2nd time in a row chiefly because it provides an informative platform to address crucial issues that revolve around new and innovative ways of conducting our businesses and organization operations for efficient, timely delivery and maximum value.”

He said, today, global telecommunications providers are embracing 5G wireless services and Artificial Intelligence in areas like Civil and Construction engineering around new innovations supporting smart materials with structural health monitoring, self-repair materials, waste management, concrete mix designs, modular construction Decision making, Robot Fleet Management systems among many other ICT enabled and supported capabilities.

In her remarks, Ms. Sheila Tusiime Mugisha, the Head Corporate Communications, Total Ugandanoted that, “Most if not all infrastructure projects around the country require support from the Oil & Gas industry in which we are a leading player.”

“Total has invested over 1 billion Euros in research and development and this investment is paying off. We are committed to providing innovative solutions to both individual and industrial customers through new innovative technologies and improvements to our delivery across the value chain,” Tusiime said.

Total’s influence cuts across power solutions like solar, locomotives including truck, graders, pulley systems among others that require petrol or diesel and moving parts that require lubricating oils.

At the press conference, brainchild BCW announced the panellists that will speak at the event.

These include:

  1. Andrew Kitaka, the Executive Director, Kampala Capital City Authority
  2. Paula Coetzee, Manager, Energy and Infrastructure, Corporate & Investment Banking, Stanbic Bank
  3. Helena McLeod, the Team Leader, Cities & Infrastructure for Growth Uganda
  4. Timothy Musoke, the Chief Technical Officer, Roke Telkom
  5. Andrew Mwenda, the CEO, The Independent Publications

Besides innovation, they are expected to discuss the recurrent delay in infrastructure project completion that cost both the government and the citizens over Shs. 2.8 trillion (Us$800m) in national income and productive work time, per annum, according to a World Bank study.

Uganda is currently pursuing a number of infrastructure projects across the transport, energy and information communication technology (ICT).In an effort to improve the national transport network, the Government of Uganda this financial year, 2019/20, allocated over Shs. 6.4 trillion to the works and transport sector while Shs. 3.1 trillion allocated to energy and ICT infrastructure to promote economic growth and transformation.
