Uganda vs. Ivory Coast
Zambia vs. Namibia
Uganda will push to bag their first win in the 2018 Caf African Nations Championship when they meet Ivory Coast on Monday at the Stade de Marrakech.
The Cranes have failed to rise to the occasion at the tournament as they have lost both of their matches in group B.
A win against the Elephants will not only fix a horrible run of results over the last six weeks (including the damning performance at the CECAFA Challenge Cup).
The three points will guarantee Uganda third place in Group B and an opportunity of banking sh724m — the cash prize at stake for all teams that finish third in their groups at the championship devised for local-based players.
And coach Sebastien Desabre knows exactly what his side that sits at No 3 with no points resulting from the two defeats, need to do to win before they will pack their bags after the clash.
He told the pre-match press conference: “Our target is now to finish third in the group. We want the maximum points against Cote d’Ivoire.”
“I have a lot of work to do with the team. My work has started. You will notice changes. Football needs goals. We had chances but never used them again.”
“I hope they can covert the chances that will come their way. It is important to stay third and I hope we can achieve that by beating Cote d’Ivoire, which is an equally good team.”
The Ivorians have failed to ignite at the continental tournament as they have also suffered two consecutive defeats in the group.
This will be the third competitive encounter involving the two countries and the Elephants have one win as well as a single draw – Uganda will want to bag their first win.
