At least 326, 149 Senior Four students are being examined for the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE)that have started today (Oct 16) as students sit for their first paper, Physics Practice and Art .
The government programme, Universal Secondary Education (USE) has registered 151,894 candidates, representing 46.6 per cent of the students sitting UCE.
UCE exams will run till November 20 with candidates expected to sit for Technical Drawings, PS Mechanical practice, IPS Building practice and IPS Electrical Practice among others.
The examinations body, according to its executive secretary Dan N. Odongo, will use the school effectiveness measure to report performance of secondary schools.
Historically, secondary schools have been judged largely by using the percentage of students in division one at O-level, which Uneb says has some weaknesses.
“This new measure will take into account the grades with which students were admitted into senior one and the final grades they will have obtained at S4 to report on how much value in terms of performance a school will have added to learners,” Odongo said.
