FDC bosses fight for Njeru Municipality seat

A new battle ground has been drawn in the newly elevated Njeru Municipality where mayoral aspirants are fighting for the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag.

Former Buikwe North constituency contender Charles Kalazani who also doubles as the District FDC party chairman is leading the pack but is under intense pressure to resign the latter to avoid conflict of interest.

Kalazani is joined in the race by fellow FDC party stalwarts Edrisa Ntale, Muhammed Awula, and Amos Wasswa Kivumbi alongside six other aspirants including Ceasar Kalema, Junju Aziz, Harriet Nankabirwa all from the ruling NRM party while the Democratic Party is represented by Arthur Mugabi.

The FDC primaries for the hotly contested seat where supposed to be held in October but they will later to be postponed to November 26 on which they were not held with different sources saying saying Nanjanakumbi has pushed them until mid-January 2017 something that has demoralized supporters.

Kalazani has on several occasions been accused of refusing to leave the office for other FDC leaders in the opposition ridden area something that has many party members divided thus risking losing the Njeru seat to the NRM candidates who are allegedly bankrolled by the state.

A spokesman for the FDC president Gen Mugisha Muntu said he was not aware of the matter and could not comment.
