Uganda Cranes midfielder Farouk Miya has been sent on loan to Royal Excel Mouscron, a team in a relegation battle in the Belgiun top league.

Miya’s club, Standard Liege confirmed the loan deal between the two sides on its official website.

“Standard de Liège, Royal Excel Mouscron and Farouk MIYA have reached an agreement,” read part of the statement on the standard liege website

The club further stated: “Our young Ugandan attacking midfielder will be loaned to the Belgian club till the end of the season without a buy-out clause”.

Miya joined Standard Liege in January 2016 from Ugandan side Vipers on a loan deal that was later made permanent but has struggled for playing time at the club that sits 9th on the log with 33 points at the moment after 24 games.

Royal Excel Mouscron sits at the bottom of the table with just 18 points from the same number of matches and unless otherwise, they will go down to the lower league.

The attacking midfielder, despite struggling for playing time in Belgium has always starred well for the national team and scored Uganda’s only goal at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

He was also named the man of the match in the 1-1 stalemate with Mali in Oyem.

About Farouk Miya

Farouk Miya was born on 26 November 1995 in Uganda.

He plays as an offensive midfielder, now for Royal Excel Mouscron and the national team the Cranes.

Miya was called up to the Uganda U23 team for the 2015 African Games.

In the first round against Mozambique U23, he missed several scoring opportunities and both legs ended 0–0.

Miya’s penalty was stopped by Mozambican goalkeeper Cesar Machava as his team eventually lost 1–4 in penalties. He played for the U23 team once again for the 2015 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualification.

In the second round against Rwanda U23, Miya scored a goal in each leg, helping his team advance to the third round against Egypt U23. Although he scored once more, Uganda U23 was eliminated by a 1-6 defeat on aggregate.
