Etihad Airlines, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, have announced it will be suspending flights from Abu Dhabi to Entebbe, with the last flight to Entebbe on March 25, 2018.
They said four weekly flights in and out of Entebbe International Airport will be suspended as “services are no longer commercially viable.”
Two years back, British Airways ended its 24-year long service to Entebbe as well.
The last Etihad flight out of Entebbe to Abu Dhabi will be on March 25, just two and a half years since the start of the route using a two-class Airbus A320 aircraft with 16 Business Class seats and 120 Economy Class seats.
TheUgandan understands that the clients who had Etihad tickets will be rebooked with Kenya Airways.
This comes as a shocker considering the increasing volumes of trade between Uganda and countries in the Middle East have recently attracted several airlines offering services to countries like UAE, China and Turkey among others.
The development now leaves four Middle east based airlines operating in Uganda, including Fly Emirates, Fly Dubai, Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways.
