Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago has been arrested at the Park Yard.
The contrversial city leader was arrested by Police on Wednesday morning alongside Member of Parliament for Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana, Moses Kasibante (Rubaga North) and Kawempe North MP’s Mubarak Munyagwa for holding a wrongful assembly at Park yard, down town, Kampala.
The four politicians were alongside vendors at the contested Park Yard market vendors protesting Kampala Capital City Authority’s impending eviction of traders until a suitable area is acquired for their relocation.
Last week, a stormy council session was called after city businessman Ham Kiggundu of Ham Enterprises Limited and the trustees of the Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium – which owns the market’s land, reached an agreement to allow the redevelopment of the stadium. The vendors were required to vacate the land as per the agreement.
