The speaker of the Ugandan parliament, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has advised the civil society organizations that are advocating for the rights of the children to extend their services up to the family level, if their objectives are to be effectively attained.
Speaker Kadaga who was speaking during the silver jubilee celebrations of Plan International Services in Uganda at Serena hotel in Kampala, said that though, a lot has been done to sensitize the children and their teachers about the rights and responsibilities on children, when children go back home their rights are being violated by the parents and guardians who are ignorant about the children’s rights.
Delayed payments, sexual harassment, lack of privacy were also singled out as some key barriers to employment for young girls in Uganda today.
