Egypt boss: Draw with Uganda ‘feels like a mountain’

Seven-time African champions Egypt will be eager to revive their dominance after some years of under-performing but the task is much harder after being drawn with Uganda Cranes and Ghana in Group D of the 2017 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) to be based in Port Gential, Gabon.

The new-look Egyptian side, coached by Argentine Hector Cuper, is returning to the Afcon for the first time since winning their last African title in Angola six years ago.

Ihab Leheta the Team Manager of the Egypt national team after Wednesday night’s draws told CafOnline: “It is the same group as in the World Cup qualifiers except Congo.

“All teams in Africa now are very strong. We have not been participating in the last three editions and this is why we have to be in a good shape.

“It is very difficult to play the same teams in the World Cup qualifiers (Ghana and Uganda). “On the other side, it is a good sign as the teams will get to know each other. Now it will be left to the coaches.

The tournament which will involve 16 teams including hosts Gabon will run January 14 to February 5th in four cities.
