Former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate Dr. Kizza Besigye has advised especially opposition youths in Kampala to take advantage of the money that President Museveni is giving out.
Speaking to journalists at the Nakawa Chief Magistrates court on Wednesday morning, Besigye urged opposition youths to hurriedly form Saccos and become beneficiaries of the money being dished out by the president especially in Kampala.
“Form Saccos, take them to Beti Kamya (Kampala Minister) so you can get money. Then bring that money to be used for our (opposition) work,” Besigye said.
Museveni since the beginning of this term has been visiting different areas together with the Kampala minister Beti Kamya urging youths and women to organize themselves into Saccos so as to benefit from funding by government of their Saccos.
Through the initiative, the president has identified a number of Saccos throughout Kampala district and given money to them, the most recent being the Muyoka Sacco in Mengo, which he gave Shs100 million to help members.
On comments by president Museveni while in Luuka over reclaiming ‘my’ Kampala, the opposition strongman said the central business district has never been a ‘garden’ for the president as he claimed during the independence celebrations on Sunday.
According to Besigye, the president has no bragging rights on Kampala; that fact he has never won a presidential election in the capital since 2001.
“The people of Kampala are elites and at all times have voted for me not him,” Besigye said.
While speaking during the Independence day celebrations in Luuka district on Sunday, President Museveni said it was high time he reclaimed Kampala, his ‘old time garden’ and laughed at those claiming bragging rights of Uganda’s capital.
“You have been hearing people mocking me saying that Museveni is now roaming around Kampala with sacks of money, dishing them out to youths. That’s not the case,” Museveni said.
“Those people how have been stirring Kampala didn’t know that they have been playing in my garden.”
