It wasn’t the best of games given the talent that was on show as defending champions Ivory Coast and Togo drew 0-0 in their opening Group C match at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The best chances fell to Jonathan Kodjia whose toe-poke was well stopped at close range by Togo goalkeeper Kossi Agassa while at the other end Sylvain Gbohouo rushed out of his goal to save smartly at the feet of Mathieu Dossevi.

Late on, Ivory Coast defender Serge Aurier headed wide from an unmarked position in a rare clear-cut chance.

In the second match of the day, Morocco coach Herve Renard begins his bid to win the Africa Cup of Nations after leading the Ivory Coast to glory in Equatorial Guinea two years ago.

At 10pm Ugandan time, Morocco open their campaign with a Group C match against DR Congo, who reached the semi-finals two years ago and won the third-place play-off.

Meanwhile, a wait of almost 40 years will come to an end for Uganda on Tuesday when they make their return to the finals, determined to prove they are a worthy competitors in their opening game against last tournament’s finalists Ghana.
