Opposition Democratic Party (DP) will buy each goal scored by a Uganda Cranes player at Shs500,000  for the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon.

Addressing journalists at their weekly press conference in Kampala this afternoon, DP Spokesperson Mr Kenneth Kakande said that the Uganda’s qualification to the AFCON after a very long period of time is a great achievement and they have to support the national team’s efforts.

Uganda is in group D with Ghana, Mali and Egypt and today at 7 pm  the Cranes play Ghana Black Stars in the first group  game in Port Gentil’s Stade Sogara.

Ghana are familiar opponents for Cranes having played one another three times in the past three years.

The Cranes have a reason to be optimistic because Ghana have no win in four matches against Uganda

“The boys needs more support from Uganda because they are the ones holding our flag even if they do not win the trophy. Representing our country after 39 years is enough to be rewarded,”Mr Kakande said.

Mr Kakande castigated the government over failure to broadcast the Afcon matches on the national broadcaster.

“This is a big shame; we urge government which has the capacity to do more for the country and for our boys. This  is not a million people, it is a team of barely thirty players, the country has the capacity to do everything under the sun to promote our boys,”Mr Kakande said.
