Nyerere helped M7 overthrow Idi Amin’s regime
President Museveni has described himself as a disciple of African greats Kenneth Kaunda and Julius Nyerere during Zambia’s 52nd Independence Anniversary celebrations in Lusaka today.
Museveni who is in Lusaka, Zambia for a two-day state visit, this morning met that country’s founding father, Kaunda at his home.
Kaunda insisted he must give his guest the bouquet of flowers himself.
Museveni out of respect said he celebrates Kaunda and Late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere’s role in liberating Africa from the colonial yoke.
“I salute Kenneth Kaunda. For us, Dr. Kenneth Kaunda is hero in Uganda. He fought for African freedom. You people should know that the prevailing freedom you have is as a result of the fight and struggle by the past African leaders like Julius Nyerere, Kenneth Kaunda etc and what the apartheid fighters in South Africa went through,” Museveni said.
“I am their disciple,” he added.
Museveni also condoled with Kaunda upon the death of his wife, Betty and wished him continued good health.
And Museveni biggest credit towards Nyerere is for his “role” in the overthrow of the Idi Amin’s regime.
