Journalists during a presser at Bay Lounge on Wednesday praised Fufa’s outgoing 3rd Vice President Denis Mbidde’s candid discussion of how he viewed former Fufa president Lawrence Mulindwa’s eight years at the helm of Ugandan football.
The past several days in the local football sphere have been dominated by Mulindwa being provoked beyond the limits to return to the post he willingly left for his protege Magogo back in 2013 – all because Mbidde came out to indicate Mulindwa’s 8-year tenure was fruitless and called him a ‘leper’.
“I’ve been provoked, called all sorts of names to the extent of calling me a football leper but if I am one, what is Mbidde (Fufa third Vice president) to football?” Mulindwa questioned at a family occasion – graduation ceremony of his two daughters at Kitende stadium.
“I want to enlighten on what has been going on. I was using an idiom to describe that Mulindwa (leper) touched things and could not hold them,” Mbidde said responded on Wednesday infront of press.
“Mr. Mulindwa and his Fufa tried to qualify for AFCON on three occasions but failed on the last day but our Fufa achieved the same at first attempt.
Becoming apologetic, the seasoned marketer and football administer explained his grandfather, father, siblings and himself were and are ‘quite easily unignorable football people’ and his background makes him ‘extremely respectful to others and satisfied’.
“Football today is under a test. For all those I have wronged or have wronged me, I forgive you,” he said.
“Let not us look at people’s beards or hands but what they will add to Ugandan football.
And as the August Fufa elections heat up, Mbidde revealed that he has not chosen which candidate to support yet and actually was quitting Fufa – going forward.
“I been part of Ugandan football for 38 years so right now I feel I have delivered. I have helped in taking Uganda to Africa Cup and thus am satisfied as a person,” Mbidde said.
“As Dennis Mbidde, I have no interest in this upcoming election. Am not contesting for the Vice Presidency of Fufa representing clubs and let me make it clear that I will only pronounce my preferred candidate for the presidency after studying all their manifestos.
“I was chosen as chairman Masaza Cup and I still serve as chairman Falcons Basketball Clubs.
