Former presidential candidate and Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) founding president Dr Kizza Besigye has vowed never to return to the Kabale Chief Magistrate Court where he is being charged of inciting violence.
Dr Besigye allegedly caused the injury of police officers and smashing wind screens of police vehicles in July 2012 when he led a procession in Kabale district.
Dr Besigye who has been attending the court for a while had come for the hearing of his case before it was adjourned to March 6 for further hearing after the state prosecution said that they wanted to bring more witnesses. This prompted the FDC leader to say he will not go back to the court, arguing it had lost meaning for him to make countless trips to the court without anything being decided.
“I and my colleagues have jointly resolved never to turn up to this court for hearing of this case because the case seems to be a joke. We shall give our lawyers the necessary information to this court to proceed without our presence because it is accepted by law,” said Dr Besigye.
He added: “We have been coming to this court for the last five years but we have never been accused of anything.”
Dr Besigye said that court had made it clear that by November last year, prosecution would have completed their case but added that “they are now giving excuses.”
