A 29-year-old mother of two Police officer, ASP Jackie Khanakwa is battling deadly cancer that affects supporting tissues of the uterus.
The former Old Mulago police station commander has been bedridden since April 2016 after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called uterine sarcoma is proving even the deadly disease can’t keep her spirits down after her fellow officers visited her at Uganda Cancer Institute on Saturday.
Ms. Khanakwa was encouraged to fight on by Kampala Metropolitan police commander CP Frank Mwesigwa alongside several other police officers.
“Jackie you should know that the entire Kampala Metropolitan Police will not stop asking God to heal you because you are our own in happiness, in sickness and in any condition we shall fight the battle together,” Mwesigwa told the ailing officer after praying for her as a group.
CP Frank Mwesigwa donate Shs1 million towards her treatment.
Police spokesperson Emiliano Kayima has reiterated that the force will continue to fundraise for her treatment through their welfare department and also called upon good hearted people to join and support the cause.
Ms. Harriet Lunyolo, Khanakwa’s elder sister said when they visited the hospital for the first time, a scan revealed that there was a swollen part of the uterus and the doctors suspected she had fibroids. An operation was carried out and she hoped she would be fine. But the bleeding has not stopped to-date.
According to Dr. Jackson Orem the Executive Director of the Institute scans on ASP Khankwa showed cancer spread to her spleen. Since then, she’s been going through a more aggressive chemo approach. A recent September scan showed her tumor had shrunk.
