One of the suspected highway robbers involved in the shooting of a taxi driver along Ishasha – Katunguru road in Bwambara Sub County in Rukungiri district Kenneth Tumushabe has confessed to committing the crime.
Kigezi Regional Police Commander Paul Nkore who is heading the operations to hunt for the robbers positively identified Kenneth Tumushabe as a crime preventer based in Rushaya village in Bwambara Sub County.
Nkore said that Tumushabe took advantage of his position as a crime preventer to access the gun that was used in the aggravated robbery.
The police officer said that the suspects belong to bigger racket of thugs who have been terrorizing the masses on roads in the sub region.
Meanwhile, the body of the late Amon Tirwomwe Kadogo the taxi driver who was shot and died in Mbarara hospital yesterday will be laid to rest today at his ancestral home in Rushoroza village in Kihiihi Sub County while that of Gideon Byaruhanga, another victim of the robbers will follow in the afternoon.
It is also reported that the third victim only identified as Ngambeki also succumbed to knife wounds which were inflicted on him by the thugs on Thursday evening.
Nkore said that the 4 suspects now under police custody will help in identifying the rest of the gang members.
