Local musician Bobi Wine a.k.a Robert Kyagulanyi is being hunted by authorities and if arrested faces being charged by the Kololo-based Anti Corruption Court with contempt and misdemeanor.

Now a confessed political activist,  Mr. Kyagulanyi, a close ally of former presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has been issued an arrest warrant for him alongside two others.

His troubles stem from a disputed Toyota Tundra pick-up with a red registration number plate UAT 416K which investigators in April 2014 had impounded from corruption-accused former Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) Secretary General Richard Nataka’s home in Munyonyo. The monster vehicle had been impounded on suspicion of tax evasion but was then claimed by Kiwani singer.

Today, Bobi Wine has been accused by court authorities of refusing to honour several invitations despite being a person beneath consideration as the lead prosecution witness in the case of Richard Nataka.

The singer’s representatives told TheUgandan that their camp was unaware of the arrest warrant and blamed their rivals for spreading harmful propaganda against Bobi Wine.

“This is work of mafias who just want to embarrass him (Bobi Wine) because he appeared in Court and actually witnessed in that matter. Now why issue the warrant anyway, we shall contact our lawyer to handle the matter,” Bobi Wine’s manager John said.

But a source privy to the  case  insists the warrant was issued on Monday and the bailiffs are expected to arrest him and arraign him in court anytime.

A CIID officer, Abbey Muhoozi, who was then in charge of the case involving the vehicle told URCS that he had got orders from the Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, to release the Tundra. Police has to date never come out to dispel or confirm the claim.

The Toyota car photographed by Bukedde (below) in 2014 before the singer changed its colour is part of 9 others imported by Red Cross that were given away under unclear circumstances to private individuals. Bobi Claims that he imported the car himself from Dubai in 2013 at shs75 million and paid shs58 million in taxes but has no papers to prove this. The car is registered under Red Cross Uganda according to URA.

For the record, the self proclaimed Ghetto President who is sought to be seeking a political office come 2021.
