Compulsory medical tests for HIV\AIDS and Hepatatis B, pushed them aside at many AS THE Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has started recruitment of Local Defence Units (LDUs) personnel to beef up security around Kampala Metropolitan Area.
The recruitment exercise that kicked off today is being conducted in the Districts of Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso running up to 1st October 2018.
It will be taking place at 23 centers, which among others include; Kira road police playground, Wankulukuku Stadium, Growers Cooperative ground in Kawempe, Lugogo KCCA grounds and Kibuli CID headquarter grounds for Kampala.
At Lugogo playground in Nakawa division, half of the number that turned up, didnt finish the mandatory 4-kilometre race.
Maj Henry Obbo, the spokesperson of the UPDF Land Forces says hundreds of Ugandans have responded to the call, hailing them for the desire to serve their nation.
He said that the screening exercise has dropped several individuals who did not pass the preliminary tests.
Army spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire announced the recruitment exercise on Saturday, saying it followed a recent directive by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
He added that those seeking to be recruited must possess a national ID, must be medically fit, should have no criminal record, residents of the area and should be aged 18 and 35.They should have a minimum formal education of P7 and S4, with no formal employment.
