Following reports that former Bishop of the Church of Uganda, Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo is stuck in a London hospital, the Church of Uganda has moved to save one of their own.
This was revealed by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, His Grace Stanley Ntagali.
Archbishop Ntagali said that the Church is in preparations to have the hospital bills of the former church leader cleared. Ntagali said that the church Nkoyoyo served still stands and therefore he can’t be stuck in hospital for any reason.
Ntagali said that some people are “spreading rumors that the retired Archbishop is suffering in the UK” which is unfortunate.
“It is a lie but we forgive those who speared such falsehoods. We are in touch with the family and they are not stuck at all,” said Archbishop Ntagali. He was addressing journalists at his Bweranyangi office in Bushenyi district.
He added, “Whenever someone falls sick, his friends come in to offer support. Our people have been flying to England and India for medical services.”
“My own diocese has already collected more than Shs 20 million and other dioceses have started sending money on the account,” he told journalists.
He said that he has spoken to Canterbury Church about Dr Nkoyooyo’s issue so that they can provide some support. He added that the government has also been briefed.
“The information circulating that Nkoyooyo is suffering is a lie. We still love him because he is a leader in the church and as a province we will look for the money,” said Dr Ntagali.
Ntagali’s remarks follow reports that the former Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda, Nkoyooyo is stuck in London after his family members failed to raise about £60,000 pounds (about Shs265.2m) to cater for his hospital bill.
He nevertheless urged the faithful to have Dr Nkoyooyo in their prayers so that he can recover and continue serving God.
