Senior six candidates have today started sitting their national examinations set for 2017 under the Uganda National Examinations Board.

The examination is the last of a series of national examinations, following the completion of the Primary Leaving Examinations and the ongoing Uganda Certificate of Education exams.

Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education finalists on Monday the exams kick off with History Paper three (3) and four (4) and Mathematics examinations.

According to the UNEB Executive Secretary Dan Odongo, examinations will continue until December 5th.

The candidates were briefed on Friday by the heads of the schools, taking them through the regulations to avoid cases of students breaking regulations because of ignorance.

Mr Odongo also explained that Uneb will deploy more than 900 scouts and about 1,000 invigilators to monitor the conduct of the examinations throughout the country.

Odongo cautions candidates against exam malpractice as this will lead to cancellation of their results.

He, however, warned those charged with handling examinations from storage stations to the examination centres to desist from diverting from the official routes, tampering with question paper envelops and, or opening them before the official time.

Mr Odongo also asked unauthorised persons to keep away from the examination rooms and insisted that all heads of centres should cordon off those areas where candidates will be writing the examination from.

“Parents, teachers and even candidates are further warned against engaging in activities that undermine the smooth conduct of exams such as bribing field officers or paying for fake question papers that unscrupulous persons tend to con people with around this examination time,” Mr Odongo said.

Likewise, a countrywide sample survey carried out by TheUgandan on day one of the 2016 examinations discovered calm at various schools, with candidates in examination rooms by 8:00am.

School heads had also picked exam material from the storage centers by that time.
