KCCA FC face challenging tests on their return to the in the 2018 CAF Champions League following today’s group stage draw.

Ugandan football will be represented continently by Mike Mutebi’s side in 2018 the lucrative tourney but no Ugandan team registered for the second tier CAF Confederation Cup.

The now 12-time Uganda Premier League (UPL) champions  CNaPS (Madagascar) in the first preliminary round  and then host the return leg for their game and if they qualify for next round.

The first of the two legs of the Champions League and the Confederation Cup will be played on the weekend of February 9-11, 2018 and the 2nd leg on the weekend of February 20-22, 2018.

Should KCCA FC advance past Islanders CNaPSSPORT, they will face the winner between El Merreikh Club (Sudan) and Al Salam Wau (South Sudan) in the round that proceeds the money-spinning group stages.

In a season where they also won the Uganda Cup to confirm their first ever double, and entered history books as the first domestic club to reach the group stages of the Confederation Cup in 2017.

Embarrassing Confederations snub

Local football governing body, Fufa has been shelled in the face today after it was exposed that no Ugandan team registered for the CAF Confederation Cup.

This comes after second-tier side Paidha Black Angels, who lost the Uganda Cup final to KCCA, admitted that they were unable to meet the financial costs of competing in the 2018 and Fufa desperately courted several clubs to no avail.

SuperSport football journalist, Usher Kyomugisha explained that Express FC were approached and committed to take part but amidst their financial and on-the-pitch struggles facing early relegation, they pulled out.

The Moses Magogo led federation then approached SC Villa and Vipers but both clubs declined to take part in the 2018 edition in a show of rebellion to the ‘hostile Mengo junta’.
