President Yoweri Museveni has rejected demands by Kasese district leaders to release their King as a condition for dialogue on the Rwenzururu issues. Sources indicate that in the Wednesday meeting with area members of parliament at his Kisozi farm; President Museveni told legislators from the Rwenzori region that he had no power to release their king from jail.
He instead told the MPs who are eager to have their king released from Luzira where he spent the festive season that only courts of law would determine the fate of the troubled king.
Earlier on Thursday, Robert Centenary the Kasese Municipality MP who has been vocal on Rwenzururu matters confirmed the development to parliamentary reporters.
“He (Museveni) told us to wait for the outcome of the trial,” said Mr Centenery.
The outspoken lawmaker however said that the trial should be given enough time and with a permanent judge for justice to be achieved.
Defiant
Meanwhile, Centenary noted that there would be no dialogue on the Rwenzori question unless King Mumbere is released.“If we are to engage in dialogue regarding the issues of Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu, the head of delegation will be the king and those talks will begin immediately he is set free,” said Centenary.
