Team Uganda members at the just concluded 2017 IAAF World Championship in London received a grand welcome upon their arrival at the Entebbe International Airport here this week.
Among them was early bird Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei who settled for a silver medal behind world champion Mohamad Farah of England. He set a personal best time of 26:49.94, while Farah set a time of 26:49.51.
The athletes were cheered by fans, while Civil Aviation Authority’s Director Airports and Aviation Security, Eng. John T. Kagoro and other officials honoured the national hero on return at Entebbe International Airport.
“It is always a good feeling representing the country. My passion is to make Ugandans proud by lifting the flag high,” Cheptegei said Eng. Kagoro.
The CAA chief explained that the airport managers have for decades welcomed many world champions after winning medals for Uganda like Cheptegei.
Moses Kipsiro (four time Commonwealth Games gold medal winner) and 2012 Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich are some of the big names who have been proudly received by CAA.
