Following the appointment of Kyabazinga William Nadiope Gabula IV of Busoga Kingdom as an Ambassador for special duties in the office of the President, a cross section of Busoga Kingdom traditionalists have questioned the appointment calling it a mockery and a sign of disrespect to the King and the kingdom at large.
A Busoga chief who preferred anonymity told our reporter that in their tradition, a king is not answerable to anyone except the gods.
“How will our king begin to bow down for President Museveni? We don’t want to be embarrassed seeing our king kneeling to Museveni like many politicians have been doing begging for money.” He said.
King Gabula IV will be subjected to a parliamentary vetting committee chaired by Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga who is his subject.
Also on the committee sits other members of parliament from Busoga kingdom who are known for shooting sharp questions and failing most of Museveni’s nominees usually basing on academic performance and competence.
This means the king will bow down before his subjects both in the vetting committee and on all other occasions since she (Kadaga) is the head of legislature, one of the three arms of government.
The king will as well be under pressure from the Inspector General of Government (IGG) who will demand him to declare his wealth in accordance with the law.
The reasons behind President Museveni’s appointment of the king as an Ambassador remains speculative with some alleging that it is meant to provide the young Monarch with a stable source of income and others saying that it’s one way of bringing Busoga kingdom under his foot steps.
